Barre

BARRE - James “Jamie” Joseph Brown, 43, of Barre passed away after a courageous battle with illnesses secondary to type 1 diabetes. He was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, with his beloved parents and son by his side.

Born on May 16, 1981, to James “Jim” and Patricia “Patti” Brown. Jamie was the second of three children and the only boy. He attended Barre Town Elementary and Middle School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 2001. After high school he worked as a roofer until his diabetes made it impossible for him to work.

He married in 2004, and his son Marek James was born on April 11, 2005. He later became a single father, which he did with so much pride. Being Marek’s father was the single most significant accomplishment of his life, according to him. He remarried in 2016 and separated in 2024.

Jamie grew up playing BYSA baseball and football starting at a very young age. He then played baseball for SHS, and men’s league softball for various teams after high school. Before becoming a father, baseball and the Red Sox were his passion. He was a dedicated teammate, player, and leader. When he wasn’t playing, he never missed a Sox game on NESN or WDEV. One of his favorite things was enjoying a game at Fenway with his Dad.

Besides baseball, Jamie an avid gun collector, and he loved to hunt and fish when he was physically able. He was also a skilled gamer, always mastering the latest PlayStation games. When his illnesses made it difficult to go out, he often found connection with others while gaming online.

Anyone who knew Jamie, knew he had the gift of gab and could tell a great story. Always engaging and hilarious. He was known for making people laugh, but more notably, he’s known for being a kind, genuine person who cared deeply for people. He was friends with everyone. It didn’t matter who you were, Jamie would talk with you and make you feel like the most important person in the world. The hundreds of people who’ve reached out is a testament of how special he was.

Jamie leaves behind his son, his best friend, Marek James Brown of Barre; his loving and devoted parents James and Patricia Brown of Williamstown; his sisters Jennifer Brown of Williamstown and Emily Winauski (Josh) of Berlin; his nephews Carter, Chase, Carson, Jack, Bodhi and Bennett; his maternal grandmother Shirley Longchamp of Graniteville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Alfred Longchamp; paternal grandparents Lawrence and Eva Brown; aunt Joan Potter; and nieces and nephew Maisy, Ella and Finn Winauski.

The impact Jamie had on all he knew was profound, especially his son, parents, and sisters. It’s inconceivable that he’s gone.

The Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre with a celebration of life immediately following at The Den, 110 Business Center Road, Williamstown.
