BARRE TOWN – Irene E. Walbridge, 81, a long-time resident passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Born on April 18, 1942, in Barre City, she was the daughter of J. Lawrence and Lila (Briggs) Walbridge. She attended Edwards School in Williamstown and graduated valedictorian from Williamstown High School in 1960.
Following graduation, Irene went to work for the National Life Insurance Company where she became a paralegal in the law department and worked there until 1990. She later filled the role for many years at the law office of Wendell Rose.
Irene actively volunteered in her community. She was an active member of the Williamstown United Federated Church and the Williamstown Historical Society.
Irene enjoyed crafts and was an expert at making jams and jellies. Having grown up with the tradition of maple sugaring, she eagerly shared her knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Local and family history were among her favorite topics.
Survivors include her siblings James Walbridge (Donna O’Brien), Louise Mier (Frank), and Christine “Chris” Sonenblum as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents and longtime friend, Robert Healy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Spring.
