VALDOSTA, GA – Ila M. Perry, 94, of Stratford Circle and a former long-time Graniteville resident passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.

Born March 1, 1925 in Plainfield, she was the daughter of Wilman E. and Mildred (Thompson) Holden.

Ila attended elementary school in Plainfield and graduated from Plainfield High School as Valedictorian as well as a talented member of the girls’ basketball team. After high school, she attended nursing school in Burlington.

On September 20, 1944, she and John M. Perry, M.D. were married in New York. Following their marriage, they made their home in Graniteville. John passed away in 1999. Ila continued to live in Graniteville until 1997 when she moved to Venice, Florida before settling in Valdosta, Georgia in 1999.

Ila was a housewife and when she wasn’t caring for her six children, she enjoyed working with yarn and playing musical instruments, such as the banjo, organ, piano and the harmonica.

Her memberships included the Bemiss United Methodist Church, ACTO – Alzheimer’s Care Givers Time Out and the VLPR Senior Center all of Valdosta, GA.

Survivors include her children John Perry, Jr., and his wife, Faith of Raleigh, NC; Nancy Nye of Raleigh, NC; Timothy Perry and his wife, Mary of Valdosta, GA; Vicki Plaster and her husband, John of Smithfield, NC; Jane Perry of Barre, VT; and James Perry of Clayton, NC; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband John, she was predeceased by her grandson Richard Perry; her sister and brother Hilda Martin Kobe and Willard Holden; and her son-in-law William Nye.

A private graveside service will be held next year at the convenience of the family in Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville, VT.
