NORTHFIELD – Hilda Mae Lanpher, 89, a longtime Barre resident, passed away peacefully at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Born on August 7, 1936, in Groton, Hilda was the daughter of Harvey and Albertine (Boomhower) Dean. She was raised in Groton, where she graduated from Groton High School. Following graduation, she worked in food service and as a waitress at The Parking Lot and Camp Meade.

On February 29, 1964, she married the love of her life, Harlan Lanpher, in Groton. Together they raised their three children in Groton and Barre before making their final home in Graniteville.

Hilda could often be found in the kitchen, where she enjoyed baking her famous coffee cakes and cookies. She was an excellent cook who loved preparing meals for her family and friends, and her home was always a welcoming place.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice LaBounty and her husband, Timothy; her sons, Robert Lanpher and Kevin Lanpher and his wife, Susan; her grandchildren, Jason and Crystal Currier, Cody, Tyra, Brady, and Robert Lanpher, and Lauren and Alyssa Lanpher; and her siblings, Doreen Cary, Sylvia Beck, and Richard Beck.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harlan Lanpher, and her brothers, Harvey, Dean, and Junior Beck.

A service to honor her life will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 487 Furnace Road, Randolph Center, VT.
