GRANITEVILLE – Henry M. “Hank” Poirier, 80, of Middle Road, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born on October 11, 1936 in Websterville, he was the son of Milan and Alberta (Goodeill) Poirier. He attended local elementary school and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in 1954.   In October of 1954, Hank enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Wisconsin as an Interior Communications Electrician and received his honorable discharge in October of 1958.

On August 8, 1959, Hank married Patricia Vigneault in the Websterville Baptist Church. Following their marriage, they made their home in Graniteville.

Hank had worked for the Washington Electric Co-op and retired as a superintendent in 1991 after thirty-one years of service.

He was a longtime volunteer with the Barre Town Fire Department, a fifty year member of the Canadian Club, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #10 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 790, all of Barre.

Hank enjoyed hunting with his friends, being “Mr. Fix It” as he could repair anything, gardening, and being active with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Poirier of Graniteville; his daughters, Valerie Sarber and her husband, Dwayne of New Hampshire and Renee Bradshaw of Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Kyle Sarber, Danielle Sarber, Nicholas Bradshaw, and Charli Bradshaw; a great-grandson, Henry Sarber; and a sister, Lorraine Houle of Barre.

He was predeceased by his brother, Roland Poirier and sisters, Betty Town and Doreen Welch.

The private service to honor and celebrate his life will take place in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center at the convenience of the family.
