BARRE TOWN – Harry Gale Eastman, 87, of School Road, died unexpectedly, on Friday, May 19, 2017, at his home.

Born in Barre City on September 28, 1929, he was the son of John and Edith (Hamel) Eastman. He attended Brook Street Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1947. On June 3, 1950, he married Maureen D. Crowley in St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville. Following their marriage, they made their home in Springfield, VT and Barre city before moving to their present residence in 1965.  Maureen died on April 4, 2004.

In earlier years, he had worked as a machinist in Springfield. He will be well remembered as a long time employee of the Green Mountain Power Company in Montpelier. He initially worked as a lineman, was promoted to a foreman and retired as a Lineman Supervisor in 1992.

Hunting, dancing, kayaking, flying his own plane and the out of doors were things he loved.

Harry was a veteran of the U.S. Army Service, serving from 1947 to 1948 in the Engineer Corps and was discharged as a Private at Fort Belvoir, VA.

His memberships included the Barre American Legion Post #10 and MacKenzie Webster VFW Post #790 on the East Barre Road.

Survivors include his daughter Kathy Vincent and husband John of Roseville, CA; and sons Kelly Eastman and his companion Michelle Amaral of East Montpelier; Bradley Eastman and wife, Jody of South Barre and John Eastman and his wife, Julie of Hinesburg and eight grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and his long-time companion Diane Paulger of Barre City.

Besides his wife, Maureen, he was predeceased by his parents, his son Brian, his sisters Lois Nolli and Anita Ball and brother John Eastman, Jr.

Harry’s life will be honored and celebrated on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Barre American Legion Post #10 with a formal ceremony followed by a sharing time and luncheon.
