Hannelore M. Pittinaro

Hannelore Mary Pittinaro (Sulkowski) died peacefully in her sleep early in the morning of March 17, 2025.

Born on July 5, 1946, in Eberhach, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden Württemerg, Germany to Orest and Paula Sofie (Kappes) Sulkowski. They immigrated to Manhattan, NY on November 3, 1951.

Hannelore spent most of her life using her middle name, Mary. She spent her early years in Manhattan’s lower west side after immigrating from Germany when she was 5, later moving to Ronkonkoma, NY where she went to Sachem High School. Mary pursued a bachelor’s degree in American Literature and later a Master of Social Work from St Joseph’s College. She worked briefly as a middle school English teacher in the William Floyd School district in Shirley, NY, later working as a social case worker in western Suffolk County based out of Bayshore, NY where she fearlessly worked for a better life for her clients for many years.

Mary enjoyed running, often participating in 5 and 10 K events all over Long Island. She also loved listening to music and going to see live bands as often as she could. Her musical tastes were diverse through time and tastes, The Rolling Stones, U2 and the Beatles were among her favorites, but she was certainly not limited to any genre or time period.

Survivors include her four children Danielle Moller, David Nichols, Dawn Nichols, and Justin Pittinaro and her grandchildren Dylan Manwarren of Concord, NC, Tess and Tyler Nichols of East Setauket on Long Island in NY and Dave and Marketa Pittinaro of Morrisville, VT and her sister, Barbara Levigne of Westminster CO.

At her request, no memorial will be held.
