Greg Hilgendorf, 58, of South Barre, died on January 15, 2016, leaving his little family of Cathy and Lucy, and pets Boo and Liz, who all mourn him deeply.
Greg was born to Wayne and Barbara (Johnson) Hilgendorf on 1/25/57 in
Worland, Wyoming and graduated from Billings West High School, Billings,Montana. He was a proud University of Montana Grizzly and maintained many friendships from his Missoula years. His older brother Terry was very dear to him.
He had a long career with the US Geological Survey, and he will be missed by his good friends there. Greg liked woodworking, followed and enjoyed several sports, and took daily walks in woods and fields with his beloved Boo dog. Mostly, he provided for and loved his “girls”.
Greg is survived by many who loved him. He met his wife, Cathy (McKenzie)Hilgendorf, when they both lived in Seattle, WA. They were married in 1993 at Lake Tahoe, in Nevada, surrounded by the most fun and loyal friends a couple could ever want.
In 1994 Greg and Cathy moved to Vermont where they raised their daughter Lucy. Father and daughter had a special bond; they loved each other more than words can tell. He will always watch over Lucy with great pride and will guide her.
In addition to Cathy and Lucy, Greg is survived by his brother Terry
Hilgendorf and wife Pat, of Great Falls, MT and their children Michelle Hilgendorf of Bozeman, MT, Mark and Julia Doney of Great Falls, MT, and Danielle and Brad Ritter of Chicago, IL, and their families. He is also survived by Cathy’s family, incl. Jack McKenzie Sr. and Jake McKenzie of Claremont, NH, Gail McKenzie of Cornish, NH, and Karen and Norris Brock of Tunbridge, VT and their families. Greg left many wonderful friends and neighbors who will forever hold fond memories.
There will be no funeral or calling hours. At a future date, there will be a gathering of family and friends to share comfort, funny stories, and "Greg-isms”.
The best way to honor Greg’s memory is to donate to the Good Samaritan
shelter in Barre VT or do a kindness for an elderly person, such as giving them your time and companionship. Condolences may be sent to Lucy and Cathy at P.O. Box 807, Montpelier VT 05601.
