Gordon H. Gilbert

BARRE TOWN / WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – Gordon Harry Gilbert, 89, formerly of Balsam Drive, died Thursday, October 1, 2015 in Williamsville, NY with his loving daughter and granddaughter by his side.
Gordon was born in Orfordville, NH on March 25, 1926 and was the son of Harry and Flora (Cassidy) Gilbert. He was married for 60 years to his wife, Florence Pepin, who predeceased him in 2006.
He lived almost his entire life in Barre. Gordon was a granite salesman for over 65 years, proudly representing Buttura, Rouleau, and Pepin Granite companies over the span of his career. In addition, Gordon was an avid hunter and fisherman in his earlier years. Known for his supportive love and pride of taking care of his family, he will be missed each day. He especially enjoyed weekends with his great-grandson, Kenneth.
He was the beloved father of Gregory Gordon Gilbert of Greene, ME and Carolee de Freitas of Buffalo, NY; Devoted grandfather of Kimberly S. Bean and her husband, Brian of Essex Junction, Aaron G. Gilbert and his wife, Deana, of Raritan, NJ, and John Gordon de Freitas of Watertown, MA.
He is survived by three great-grandchildren, Kenneth Gordon Bean, and Madison and Avery Gilbert. Several sister and brothers-in-laws also survive him including Raymond, Roland, and Pierre Pepin. Also surviving him are several nieces and nephews including Lynda Wagner of Barre and Sonny Frost of Graniteville.
Gordon was predeceased by five sisters; Marion Bockus, Dorothy Conley, Theresa Majesky, Lucille Gilbert and Elsie (Mrs. Eugene) Stefanazzi of Barre with whom he had a special bond. He was also predeceased by five brothers; Norman, Rowaine, Kenneth, Karl, and Dean Gilbert.
His funeral will be held at noon Thursday, October 8, 2015 in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
Interment will follow in the Berlin Corner Cemetery.
Friends and Family may call at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. that day.
