MONTPELIER – Gloria E. Mitchell, 86, of Freedom Drive passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at her home.
Born August 5, 1931 in Barre, she was the daughter of Percy and Olivia (Caccivio) Gray. Gloria attended elementary school in East Barre and Plainfield and graduated in 1948 from Plainfield High School as valedictorian.
Soon after graduation she married Robert Morse in Plainfield and raised three children. They later divorced. In 1991, she married Joseph Mitchell in Berlin. They were inseparable until he passed away on December 16, 2014. She was an inspirational and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
Gloria was employed as a legal secretary at the law firm of Paterson, Gibson and Noble before joining the firm of Sylvester & Maley, Inc., in Burlington as an Attorney’s Assistant.
Her memberships included the Grace Methodist Church in Plainfield, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Business and Professional Women. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, crocheting and participating in Eastern Star events.
Survivors include her son Bruce Morse and his wife, Shirley of Berlin; her daughter Diane Konrady and her husband, Michael of Morrison, TN; her step-sons Stanley Mitchell of Seattle, WA and Joseph Mitchell, Jr., and his wife Kathryn of Charlestown; her step-daughter Sue Harris and her husband, Jimmie of Bethel; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; her brothers Ernest Gray and his wife, Beverly of Plainfield and Charles Gray and his wife, Brenda of Lillington, NC; and her sister Celia Winters of Plainfield as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Mitchell; three infant children; her daughter Sally Wagner; and her brothers William Gray and Henry Gray.
The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Entombment will take place in the Hooker and Whitcomb Vault to await later interment in the Plain-Mont Cemetery in East Montpelier.Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home
