BARRE - Gloria Fox Lynn, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Barre Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born September 20, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Harry and Sarah (Cohen) Fox. Gloria graduated from Pratt Institute of Art in NYC with a degree in Fine Arts.
In 1946, Gloria married Martin Lynn. She combined her careers of parenting three sons, interior decorating, and painting. Her husband, Martin, was a commercial graphic artist in NYC.
In 1976, after all three sons had graduated from college, Gloria and Martin moved to the French side of St. Martin in the Caribbean. That was their Shangri La where they both produced and sold art from their living room/gallery. They lived in St. Martin for 27 years until 2003.
Gloria and Marty returned to NYC in 2003. Martin died in 2005. Gloria continued living in NYC until 2013, when she moved to Vermont to be near her son, William, and daughter-in-law, Nancy.
She created art her entire life, until her health declined in her last year. In 2017, she exhibited a Lynn family retrospective at Studio Place Arts in Barre. Her exhibit included her own art as well as pieces from her father, Harry Fox, her husband, Martin, and her three sons, William, Peter, and Robert, and her granddaughter, Stephanie.
Gloria will be remembered for her love of art, animated interest in politics, and love for her family.
Survivors include her sons, William Lynn and his wife, Nancy of Montpelier, VT; Peter Lynn and his wife, Barbara of Sante Fe, NM; and Robert Lynn of St. Martin, French West Indies; her grandchildren Matthew Lynn and his wife, Nina, and their baby daughter, Nora of Burbank, CA; and Stephanie Lando and her husband, Bryden of Venice, CA.
As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Her family will share a private celebration of her life at a later time.
