Obituary

BARRE – Gertrude Yvette (Bibeau) Wills, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the Barre Gardens.

Born on November 7, 1937, in Barre, she was the daughter of George and Agathe (Gingras) Bibeau. She grew up in Graniteville and attended the St. Sylvester School and Spaulding High School in Barre.

Gertrude’s mother was tragically killed in a car accident, so she took on household responsibilities at an early age. Gertrude was married and lived in Bennington for several years. After her husband passed away, her nephew and niece, Brian, and Lori (Tucker) Bibeau relocated Gertrude to Barre, where they would care for her for the past 26 years. Gertrude resided at the Washington Street Apartments for over 23 years.

In her younger years, Gertrude worked in the Hospitality Industry with her sister, Laurette Caron, where they traveled to various locations for employment in New England, New Jersey, and Florida. In her spare time, Gertrude enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery and cooking. She also enjoyed playing BINGO at the Washington Street Apartments, often with Derek and Andrea Bibeau when they were children. She enjoyed putting together Christmas gift bags and distributing them each year to residents of the Washington Street Apartments. She enjoyed family barbeques at the Bibeau’s and attending the annual East Corinth July 4th chicken barbeque. Gertrude was considered a member of the Tucker family and attended their large holiday gatherings at Easter and Thanksgiving. She was kind and compassionate to all who knew her.

Survivors include her nephew and niece; Brian and Lori (Tucker) Bibeau, their children: Derek and Vui (Kwasnik) Bibeau, Andrea Bibeau, great-niece Kallista Bibeau, her siblings Alcide Bibeau and Laurette (Bibeau)Caron and sisters-in-law, Marie Bibeau and Judy Bibeau, numerous nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings Henry Bibeau and Lionel Bibeau.

The family would like to acknowledge the great care and support given by the Barre Housing Authority, their Maintenance Staff, SASH Program and Residents Council. They would also like to thank the Barre Gardens staff for the excellent care for the past 3 years and the hospice staff at Bayada Services who provided end of life support.

Per Gertrude’s wishes a private interment will take place in Williamstown Cemetery at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours.
