BARRE – Gerard L. Marcotte, 94, a former long-time Barre resident passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the Ridgewood Center Nursing Home in Bedford, NH.
Born November 21, 1924, in Barre City, he was the son of Rosaire and Eva (Roy) Marcotte. He attended elementary school in Barre and was a graduate of Spaulding High School as part of the Class of 1942. Following his graduation, he went on to attend a Technical School and specialized in Radio Engineering.
On March 3, 1943, Gerard enlisted in the United States Navy. He served with distinction as a Sonarman throughout World War II in the on the USS Ira Jeffrey and the USS Haverfield. He was honorably discharged on February 20, 1946.
Following his service to his country, Gerard married Lorraine M. Butler on November 4, 1950 in Websterville. The two made their home for many years on Ayers Street in Barre where they raised three wonderful children.
Gerard spent his working life as the Chief Radio Engineer at W.S.K.I. in Montpelier. He eventually retired after a long career there.
He was a member of the St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre, the Boy Scouts of America, the Knights of Columbus, and the Barre Elks Lodge #1535.
Throughout his life, Gerard held many hobbies and interests. The most important of those included woodworking, electronics repair, organizing and attending Navy ship reunions and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter Margaret Piecuch and her husband, Stan, of Goffstown, NH; his son Jerry Marcotte and his wife, Wendy, of Windsor Locks, CT as well as two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves his two sisters Pauline Jones and Lena Verkouille.
He was predeceased by his wife Lorraine Marcotte; his daughter Susan Marcotte; his sisters Rita Bai, Aline Mestel and Yvette Trottier.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Gerard’s life will be held in the St. Sylvester Cemetery in Barre Town at the convenience of the family in the spring.
