BARRE TOWN – George Leslie Lowe, 83, of East Cobble Hill Road, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington surrounded by his family.
Born December 3, 1934 in Brattleboro, he was the son of George H. and Ruth (Knowlton) Lowe.
He graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1953. Following his Army Service during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955, he graduated from Castleton College with a B.S. Degree in Education in 1959 and later his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona, in Tucson.
In June of 1958, he married Nancy J. Rowlee in Reading, VT. For the past 40 years, they have resided at their present home in Barre Town.
After numerous years in the field of education, he became Director of Emergency Management for the State of Vermont, retiring in 1998.
He enjoyed his dogs, fishing, hunting, working in the woods, and his friends at Body Tech Health and Fitness Club. George will be remembered as an avid reader.
His memberships included the Barre Congregational Church and Barre American Legion Post #10.
George was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Besides his wife, Nancy, survivors include his daughter Darlene of Essex and son George and his wife, Lindsay of Barre Town and 4 granddaughters Katie, Jackie, Nicola, and Lilyana. Also surviving are three brothers and one sister.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant daughter and five brothers.
His life will be remembered on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the Barre Congregational Church. Later inurnment will be made in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.

The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre is in charge of the arrangements. The Lowe family extends their heartfelt thanks to the ICU Unit, McClure 6 and the hospital staff at the University of Vermont Medical Center for their compassion and wonderful care.
