WASHINGTON – Gary R. Villa, 78, of Woodchuck Hollow Road passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
Born May 6, 1941 in Barre, he was the son of Roger John and Arline Lillian (Conley) Villa. He attended Stratford Hollow Elementary and High School in New Hampshire. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Berlin, NH and served as an Airman First Class in Vietnam before he was honorably discharged at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
On September 15, 1984 he married Susan MacIntyre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Washington.
Gary was employed as a newspaper delivery man and when he was not working, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family - especially cooking for them. He loved animals and going to camp.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #792 in Montpelier as well as a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #10 in Barre.
Survivors include his wife Susan Villa of Washington; his son Norman Abdella, III of Orange; his grandchildren Emily J. Capron, Katie B. Abdella and Alekzander J. Abdella; his sister Lynda Fassett and her husband, Ray of Toccoa, GA; his brother Philip Villa and his wife, Sharon of Lynnwood, WA as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Tina Nykiel.
The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #792, 1 Pioneer Street, Montpelier, VT 05602. There are no calling hours. Later inurnment will be made in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center at the convenience of his family.
