MORETOWN – Gary C. Brown, 71, of Brownsville Road passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the UVM Medical Center with his family at his side, from kidney disease.
Born on February 14, 1954, in Moretown, he was the son of Maurice and Nancy (Hawthorne) Brown. He attended Moretown Elementary School and graduated from Harwood Union High School.
On February 27, 1972, he married Cheryl Carlyle. Following their marriage, they made their home in Moretown with their daughter Cherilyn on the family farm.
Gary was a self-employed logger and farmer. He was a devoted husband, father and grand-father to all, including the ones who had either adopted him or he had adopted them. In his spare time, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch with Cheryl, watching over his family and the family farm with a close eye, making sure everyone was happy and safe. Spending time with his family and watching the family grow over the years, is what he enjoyed and making sure everyone was happy. He was happy hunting with his father Maurice, brother Curly, sister Susan, grandsons Jason and Charlie and brother in-law Bobby at his hunting camp of which he built from the logs off the family farm. He was so proud of logging with Frank Barr, snowmobile racing and car racing with Mike Knapp which led to the creation of G & M Team Racing. He loved working in his Christmas Tree Farm with his family, including planting the trees and mowing the trees and occasionally sending Cherilyn up in the bucket to trim the trees and leaving her up in the air to find a way out after he left. Teaching his grandson Jason how to run his tractors and equipment correctly and safely (his way). Listening to Charlie talk about the fish he had caught. He loved playing with his grandbabies Rebel, Everly and Ameila. All of which are treasures from his beautiful grand-daughters Cortney and Caitlyn who he cherished with all of his heart. Motorcycle rides with Cheryl, Bobby and Sarah and checking Craig's List for his next purchase (which he made one week prior to his passing to be sure the trees and lawn were properly taken care of). Gary was a hard worker and always busy doing something, whether it was puttering around because he couldn’t sit still, getting things done that he knew had to be taken care of, or just simply helping the neighbors out when called upon as everyone knew “If Brown can’t fix it, no one can”.
Survivors include his wife Cheryl Brown, his daughter Cherilyn Brown and husband Josh Lanfear; his granddaughters Cortney and her husband David Diego and Caitlyn Bandy; his great-grandchildren Jason Diego, Charlie Diego, Rebel Diego, Everly Cramer and Amelia Cramer; his sister Susan Companion and companion Pete Wood; his nieces Angela Brown, Karen Brown, Jessica Nichols, Jocelyn Brooker and his nephew-in-law Cliff Frates and families, nephew Paul Brown, cousin Dale Spooner, special sister in-law Sarah Carlyle and her children Brian, Kerri and their families, as well as brothers and sisters in-laws.
