Garnet M. Jameson

MARSHFIELD – Garnet Martha Jameson, 103, of Hollister Hill Road died Monday, August 28, 2017 at home with her daughter at her bedside.

Born June 30, 1914 in Coral, Michigan, she was the daughter of John and Golda (Webb) VanGundy. Garnet moved from Ohio to New Mexico in 1918 with her parents and 3 brothers due to the ill health of her mother. Her father was a Methodist minister.

Garnet graduated from Clayton High School in Clayton, New Mexico in June of 1933.

In December 1933, she married Del W. Jameson in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After their marriage, they lived in Corona, Albuquerque, Farmington, Las Cruces and Santa Fe all in New Mexico. Del died in 1968.

Garnet was a homemaker, although after Del’s death, she became a trained microfilm technician, both by photographic preparation and via computer scanning. She was first employed as a microfilm technician at the NM Title Company in Albuquerque.   In 1979, she moved to Virginia to join her daughter and was employed as a microfilm technician by Real Title Company in Fairfax, VA, retiring in 1994 at the age of 80. She and her daughter, Anne moved to Marshfield in 2004.

Garnet studied piano in her childhood and became a very accomplished pianist. She always loved her gardens, especially those of roses and lilies and also enjoyed reading, music, sewing and embroidery.

Survivors include her daughter Anne Jameson of Marshfield and her grandson Eric Slesinger of Alexandria, VA.

In addition to her parents and her husband Del, she was predeceased by her brothers Gerald, Carl, and Delmar.

A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
