ORANGE - Fernand Charles Fontaine, 90, formerly of Moran Road in Orange, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on January 8, 1925, in Montreal, Quebec, he was the son of Wilfred and Cecile (Guyette) Fontaine. He attended school in Iberville, Quebec. Fernand married his first wife Carmen Lefebvre and they lived in Iberville, moved to Barre, VT and later to Orange. After Carmen passed away, Fernand married Charlotte Blodgett and they continued to live in Orange.
Fernand worked as a police officer and firefighter in Iberville and later worked as a stonecutter in the granite industry until his retirement from Lawson Granite Company in Barre.
He enjoyed the outdoors as he was an avid hunter, fisherman, vegetable gardener, camper, ice fisherman, and enjoyed walking in the woods.
Survivors include: his son, Daniel Fontaine and his fiancée Lucille Chicoine of Barre; his daughters, Marie Robichaud of Montreal, Francine Charpentier of Iberville, and Lise Kenyon of Charlotte, VT; step-daughters, Christine and her husband Mark Groleau, and Gayle Munson all of Orange; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Therese Lefebvre of South Burlington; and his brother-in-law, Marc Lefebvre of St. Jean, Quebec; and several nieces and nephews.
His graveside service will be held in the spring in the Brook Haven Cemetery, Orange. There are no calling hours.
