MORETOWN – Ella Lou Sanguinetti, 92, of Ledge Road, passed away quietly on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin following a short illness.

Born on February 15, 1932, in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Wesley and Myrtle (Jones) Ayer. She attended schools in Montpelier, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1950.

On May 9, 1953, she married Ronald K. Sanguinetti. They lived in Montpelier for several years before moving to Moretown in 1972. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last summer. Ron passed away on November 1, 2023.

Lou’s life included work at National Life and helping to run the family-owned Village Shoe Shoppe for many years, but her first focus was always on her family. Like many moms, she always seemed to be busy.

She was a wonderful cook, making homemade bread for her family for over 60 years, a wide assortment of other baked goods and many, many wonderful meals. Her “mile-high” biscuits for the Chicken Pie Supper at the Barre Universalist Church were legendary. She also enjoyed sewing and especially quilting. She made dozens of baby quilts that were quietly given away to struggling new moms and children in foster care.

Lou was a past president of the Barre Universalist Church women’s group (the AUW), made aprons for the church fair, and taught Sunday school for many years.

Her favorite memories included a trip to England and Germany to visit family and a cross country trip to Alaska with her husband. Like her husband, she loved beagles and missed their last beagle, Susan, deeply.

Survivors include her sons Bruce (Pam) of Jericho, and David (Debbie) of Berlin, her grandchildren Madison, Justin (Lea), Rachael Hayes (Shoghi), Joseph, and a great-grandchild, Charlie.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Ron, her brother Herbert and her sister Dorothy, as well as an infant son Michael.

There will be a Celebration of Life to be held at a future date.

Lou’s family is especially grateful for the care she received while at the Central Vermont Medical Center and Woodridge Nursing Home during her final days - the care and support the staff gave her and her family was compassionate, professional, and heart-felt. Thank you all.

The family would also like to thank Susan Lyons, Julie Ladue, and Bobby Ryan for the care you gave Mom – you are family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Scholarship Fund, c/o Granite Lodge #35, 2 Academy Street, Barre, VT  05641.
