PLAINFIELD – Elisabeth “Betsey” Bolt, 75, of Gonyeau Road, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, at Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH, with her loving son Matthew by her side.
Born March 1, 1951, in North Adams, MA, she was the daughter of William Bolt Sr. and Alice (Bradford) Bolt. She attended Mark Hopkins Elementary School and Drury High School, graduating in 1969. She then attended North Adams State College (now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts), graduating in 1974 with a B.S. in Biology and again in 1975 with a degree in Medical Technology. In 2003, she returned to school, attending Vermont Technical College, where she received her nursing license.
On August 23, 1986, she married Norman J. Paquin in Brandon, VT. Betsey and Norm made their first home in Bristol, CT, before buying land in Plainfield, VT, where they built their home. Their only son, Matthew, was born on their wedding anniversary, August 23, 1987.
Betsey worked as a Medical Technician, Paralegal, and Licensed Practical Nurse for various nursing homes throughout central Vermont, as well as for Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice.
A devout member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Barre, VT, she served on the property committee and vestry, and as a Sunday school teacher and lay eucharistic minister, delivering communion to those in need. She took pride in making her famous quiche for church breakfasts and loved attending the Twin Valley Senior Center after retiring.
Her interests included reading, computers, gardening, cooking, and baking. Most of all, Betsey loved being a mother to her son Matthew and later a grandmother to her grandson Carel. Her fiery demeanor, laughter, sense of humor, loyalty, and compassion will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman J. Paquin, and is now reunited with him, as well as her father, William Bolt Sr.; her mother, Alice (Bradford) Bolt; her brother, William Bolt Jr.; and her sister, Charlotte Hoerner.
Survivors include her son, Matthew Bolt Paquin, and grandson, Carel Norman Paquin, of Plainfield, VT; siblings Benjamin Bolt of Windham, CT, Mary Lou Bolt (Tim) of Chittenden, VT, and Richard Bolt of Rutland, VT; nephews Nicholas and Andrew Bolt; nieces Gaia Hoerner, Tessa Stephens, Susan Bolt Bayles, Meghan Chambers, Kelsey Florino, Amy Moore, Nicole Paquin-Cumento, and Michelle Paquin; and sisters-in-law Juanita Paquin and Linda Moore.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Barre, VT, with the Rev. Earl Kooperkamp officiating. Burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. There are no calling hours.
Matthew would like to thank the staff of Grafton County Nursing Home for the dignity, patience, and compassion they showed his mother throughout her journey with Alzheimer’s disease. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association to support research and the fight against this disease.
