Elin J. Batten

February 8, 1930 — February 10, 2019

West Topsham

WEST TOPSHAM - It is with a combination of sadness and great joy that the family of Elin Johnson Batten announce her passing on Sunday, February 10, 2019. Sadness, because we're saying good bye to a very loving mother who will be greatly missed. Great joy, because we know that our mother passed into the arms of Jesus and will live with Him for eternity; her final home.

Elin was born February 8, 1930 in East Orange, she was the daughter of Henning and Isabelle Christie (Richardson) Johnson. She grew up in East Orange with her three older brothers and three older sisters. She graduated from Bradford Academy.

She married Russell Batten in October of 1948. As well as being a faithful wife and loving mother, Elin was very involved in her community through Sunday School, PTA, Mothers Club, 4-H Club and many other venues of service. In addition to being a wonderful mother to her five, she also took in many other children who needed the tender loving care that she was always so willing to give throughout her long life. Russell passed away in July of 2018. He, too, will be there to welcome his beloved wife into heaven.

Survivors include her five children, Mikael and his wife, Diana of Orange, VT; Judy Citro of Fort Mill, SC; Ava MacKinney and her husband, Steve of Fair Grove, MO; Aleta Burns and her husband, Bob of Georgia, VT; and Ken Batten and his wife, Tina Marie of North Hyde Park, VT; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of almost 70 years, Russell Batten and as well as her six siblings.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated in the spring in lieu of a funeral. It will be announced later, and all are welcome to attend.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 33, West Topsham, VT 05086.
