Middlebury

BARRE - Eleanor Imlach, age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Middlebury, VT.

Eleanor was born on April 26, 1921. She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1939, and from the Heaton School of Nursing in 1942.

She began her career as an Army nurse in 1945 and served as a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Eleanor served at many hospitals throughout the world, including Korea, Iran, Germany, and France, along with many in the United States. Eleanor proudly reached the rank of an Army Major, something that was exceptional for a woman at that time.

When Eleanor retired from the Army in 1967, she returned to her home town of Barre, where she cared for her parents until their passing. She moved to Middlebury to be closer to her family, where she resided for the last 5 years.

Survivors include her sister Evelyn Imlach Perry; her niece Ann Perry Perreault and her husband, Bruce Perreault; niece Kathleen Perry Tiller and her husband, Gary Tiller; nephew Courtland L Perry III and his wife, Cynthia Hamblin Perry; and niece Jennifer Perry (Sargeant). Great nieces and nephews and their spouses: Kate Perreault Callahan and Mike Callahan; Brye Perreault Beckwith and Steven Beckwith; Hayley Tiller Albert and Matt Albert; Chelsea Tiller Chapman and Matt Chapman; Cory (Courtland) L Perry IV and Hsiao-Han Huang; Shelby Perry; Lily Sargeant; Dayle Sargeant; Greer Sargeant; as well as her great-great niece and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents William P. Imlach and Annie (Lillie) Imlach, and her brother-in-law Courtland L Perry Jr.

Eleanor will be remembered by friends and family for her fascinating, funny, and heartfelt stories about her family, career, and travels, and for her wonderful collection of mementoes she brought home to share with her loved ones.

The family would like to thank Eleanor's care providers at Eastview in Middlebury, Addison County Home Health and Hospice, and Dr. Wendy Puls and the staff at Middlebury Family Practice. We deeply appreciate the care they provided for Eleanor, particularly during her last few days.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation, 4601 Forbes Blvd, Suite 130, Lantham, MD 20706, 888-782-2148 www.dvnf.org
