SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT – Elaine J. Bassett, 87, of Shunpike Road, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at her home with her family at her side.

Born on February 14, 1938, she was the daughter of Vernard and Delores (Forrest) Weir.  She attended elementary school in Websterville and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1956.  Elaine was first employed by National Life Insurance Company computing premiums until she married.

On September 7, 1957, she married Gordon Bassett in Barre.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Colchester at Ethan Allen AFB, then Hillcrest Trailer Park before settling in South Burlington.

In 1971, she became a surgical assistant at the Brown Animal Hospital where she retired from in 1992.

In her spare time, she had enjoyed playing golf, driving fast cars and collecting teddy bears.

Prior to Covid, she attended Crosspoint Church in Williston.

Survivors include her husband Gordon Bassett, her son Robert Bassett and her daughter Tamara Bassett as well as two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents.

The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at  11:00 a.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.  Following the service, interment will take place in the Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville.  There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, 75 Talcott Road, Suite 40, Williston, VT  05495.
