BARRE – Edmund C. “Skip” Martell, 84, of South Howard Drive, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

Born October 6, 1932 in Montpelier, he was the son of Edmund and Eetla (Croce) Martell. He attended local elementary schools and graduated from Montpelier High School with the class of 1954.

After graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served with distinction until being honorably discharged then returned to live in Barre.

On February 6, 1956, he married Christine J. Cerasoli in Barre. Following their marriage they made their home in Chicago, IL, Buffalo, NY, Hillsdale, NJ and Barre because he was a Captain for United Airlines for 36 years. He wintered in Sun Lakes, AZ for over 20 years spending summers at his cottage on Lake Morey in Fairlee. Christine passed away on April 5, 2012. After Christine passed away, Skip married Barbara Bronstrup in October of 2013.

Skip was an avid golfer, and liked to play cards and go boating and enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   His loves were his dog, “Magic”, telling jokes, and keeping himself occupied with projects.

His memberships included the Barre Lodge of Elks #1535, Barre Country Club, Lake Morey Country Club, and the Cotton Wood Country Club in Sun Lakes, AZ.

Survivors include his children Jeff Martell and his wife, Nancy of Barre; Ann Cano of Phoenix, AZ; Suzanne DeForge of Barre; and his grandchildren Jeannie Martell Graves and her husband, Michael of Barre; Michael Martell of Southington, CT; Nicole Martell; Megan DeForge and Matthew DeForge all of Barre; and Chelsea and Michael Mathews of Phoenix, AZ; and his great-grandchildren Jaysen and Austin Graves, Carley Martell and Gabriel, Vincent, Grace and Dominic Matthews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Christine and his step-father Hugh Rogers.

The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Inurnment will follow in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. There are no calling hours.
