WILLIAMSTOWN – Edgar S. “Joe Pete” Magoon, Jr., 77, of Rt. 14, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Joe Pete was born in Norfolk, Virginia on April 27, 1937, the son of Edgar S. Magoon, Sr. and Flindy (Norton) Magoon. He attended local schools in Virginia.
On June 3, 1961 he married Irene Parker in Williamstown, VT. Irene passed away in 1997.
Most of his life, Joe Pete drove a truck for Hemway Transportation and was also employed by Tucker Contour Saw, Colombo Granite, and eventually retired from Adams Granite.
Joe Pete enjoyed racing at the speedway in Bradford, fishing, hunting, and his favorite pastime, auctions and running his own flea market.
He is survived by three daughters; Gala Perreault of Barre, Teresa Bolio and her husband David of Williamstown, and Cheryl King and her husband Robert of Bellows Falls; three sons, Robert Salter and his wife Julie of East Barre, Duncan Salter and his wife Patty of Williamstown, and Edgar S. Magoon, III of Williamstown; ten grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Additionally he is survived by two sisters, Ruth Gagnon of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Linda Lane of Plainfield, and his brother, Eugene Magoon, of Barre.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is recently predeceased by his companion of 15 years, Lucille Perry.
Funeral Services for Joe Pete will be held Monday, March 23, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St. Barre. Following entombment in the Hooker and Whitcomb vault, interment will take place at the Berlin Corners Cemetery later this spring.
