BARRE – Earl E. Barton, 95, of Elliston Street, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center. His family had been at his bedside.
Born on October 20, 1919 in Montpelier, he was the son of Pearley and Ethel (Lawson) Barton. Earl attended local schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in the 1937. After graduation, he became a Master Plumber and worked in that industry for over 30 years in the Central Vermont and Burlington area.
In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II until he was honorably discharged in 1945.
On September 24, 1954, he married Gladys Molander in Montpelier. They were married for 58 years. She died in 2013. They first made their home in East Montpelier for a year before moving to Barre where they resided at their Elliston Street residence for the remainder of their lives.
Earl was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1391 and in his spare time enjoyed baseball, football, woodworking, and yardsaleing with his relatives.
Survivors include his daughter Vivian Lawrence, and her husband, John of Barre; his two sons Michael and Steven also of Barre; his five grandchildren, Jason Lawrence, Sean Lawrence, Laura Charbonneau, Patrick Barton, Jennifer Gilman and his great-grandchildren Todd and Dylan Charbonneau. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Juliet Barton, of Florida.
A memorial Service to celebrate Earl’s life will be held on July 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre.
