Douglas W. Spaulding

EAST BARRE – Douglas Walter Spaulding, 75, of Phil Street passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, with his loving family at his bedside.
Born August 16, 1941 in Barre, he was the son of Wayne and Carrie (Payne) Spaulding. He attended elementary school in East Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School. After high school, Doug served in the Vermont Army National Guard.
On February 4, 1967, Doug married Susan Jane Boudreau in St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre. They made their home in East Barre.
Douglas was first employed by the family business WW Spaulding, and then he worked as a Sales Representative for a Food Broker retiring after 40 years of employment. In his retirement years, he worked part-time as a driver for Formula Ford.
He was a member of the Mutuo, Inc. Doug enjoyed doing carpentry work and built his own home. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, cross country skiing, kayaking, traveling, visiting cemeteries and especially time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; his daughter, Sherry Spaulding and her husband, Robert Kowalski of Pepperell, MA; his son, Martin Spaulding and his wife, Joanne of Barre Town; three grandchildren, Max Kowalski, Madison Spaulding, and Emma Spaulding; his brother, Robert “Toad” Spaulding of East Orange; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Spaulding.
The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the East Barre Congregational Church. Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
