Douglas W. Bullard

SOUTH BARRE – Douglas W. Bullard, 87, a long-time resident of South Barre passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin with his loving family at his bedside.

Born October 30, 1930 in Barre, he was the son of Corydon and Christina (MacInnis) Bullard. Doug attended elementary school in Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School with the class of 1949.

Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and subsequently the National Guard and served for 27 years with distinction before being honorably discharged as a Master Sargeant.

On July 18, 1953, Doug married Phyllis Caustic in Montpelier. After their marriage they lived on Cambria Street before moving to South Barre where they made their home for over fifty years.

Doug was employed at the telephone company for 37 ½ years before retiring.

His memberships included the American Legion Post #10, the VFW Post #790 and he was a lifetime member of the Canadian Club of Barre.

In his spare time, Doug enjoyed baseball especially the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, listening to music and spending time with his family, friends and his dog Frosty.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Bullard; his sons Gordon Bullard and his wife, Linda; Steven Bullard; and Scott Bullard; and Cheryl Smith; his grandsons Eric Bullard, Keith Bullard and Andrew Bullard; his great-granddaughter Isla Bullard and his sister Elaine Kushner.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Michael D. Bullard.

Family and friends may call on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – noon at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Inurnment will follow with a graveside service in Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville.
