BARRE – Dorothy Mae Otis, 84, a longtime Williamstown resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Woodridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin. Her loving family was at her bedside.
Born on October 29, 1940, in Pineville, Louisiana, she was the daughter of John and Ida (Humpfries) Bohannon. She attended school in Pineville, Louisiana.
On June 3, 1956, Dorothy married the love of her life Fernand N. Otis in a ceremony held in Pollock, Louisiana. The two eventually made their home in Williamstown for over 40 years, where they raised their six wonderful children. They recently moved to South Barre. During that time she worked for Capital City Press where she worked as a Binder for 34 years. She retired in 2002.
In her spare time, Dorothy cherished spending time with her family, especially all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Fernand Otis of South Barre; her children John Louis Otis of Edgewater, Florida, Albert Otis of Las Vegas, Nevada, Chuck Otis of Orange, Debra Otis of Williamstown, George Otis of Orange City, Florida; as well as 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son James Otis; her brothers Oscar, Louis, Lester and Lonnie and two grandchildren Patrick and Kristina Otis.
A service to honor and celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
