Doris E. Portalupi

BARRE TOWN – Doris Elaine Portalupi, 90, of Barre, Vermont passed away at the home of her son and his family on Friday, August 30, 2024.

Born on December 27, 1933, in Barre City, Doris was the daughter of Frederick and Margaret (Murray) MacAulay. She attended school in Williamstown, Vermont, graduating from Williamstown High School in 1951. She then attended Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1954 as a Registered Nurse.

On August 17, 1957, Doris married Norman Portalupi in Williamstown. They lived in Barre City for a few years, until they bought their home in Barre Town.

Doris worked as a nurse in Norwalk, Connecticut, Barre City Hospital, and Central Vermont Hospital. She retired in 1995, after working as a nurse for 40 years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Barre, where she was very active. Doris took many wonderful trips throughout the United States and Canada and made two trips to Scotland to visit her cousins.

Doris also enjoyed volunteering at the Aldrich Public Library in Barre, reading murder mysteries, doing crossword puzzles, baking bread and cookies, and feeding various types of birds in the winter.

Doris is survived by her only child, Alec Portalupi and his wife Kimalie, and her two grandchildren, Iain Portalupi and Brenna Portalupi.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and her three sisters, Sheila Bizzarro, Mary Day, and Ann Hegarty.

Her funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. There are no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Hope Cemetery in Barre.
