GRANITEVILLE – Doris L. Fournier, 87, of McLeod Hill Road passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
Born on November 23, 1936, in Barre, she was the daughter of Romeo and Rose (Ruel) Goulet. She attended Holy Ghost Convent in Graniteville and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Newport, VT.
On June 22, 1957, she married Roland Fournier, and they made their home on McLeod Hill in Graniteville all their married lives. Roland passed away on April 22, 2017.
Doris worked in production at Sprague Electric before being employed at Rock of Ages. She later worked as a Postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in both the Graniteville and Washington post offices. Doris also held many community leadership roles throughout her life receiving several awards for her service to others.
She was a member of the St. Sylvester and St. Monica Catholic Churches, the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #10 of Barre, as well as the Forty and Eight Veterans Organization – an independent extension of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Post #790 of East Barre and the Barre Senior Center.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts, sewing, camping, road trips, and square dancing as well as playing Mrs. Clause at the Annual American Legion Children’s Christmas party.
Survivors include her children David Fournier (Kelly), Bruce Fournier, Linda Bouffard (Tom), and Kevin Fournier (Sonya); her grandchildren Christina, Anna, Ashley, Elizabeth, Bryce, Erin, Tyler, Andrew, and Chase and six great-grandchildren; her sisters Gloria Goulet and Anita Manco, her sister-in-law Claire LaPerle (Norman), and her three nephews, six nieces and multiple cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Roland, her son Wayne, her brother Philip, her brother-in-law Robert, and her niece Darlene as well as several other in laws, cousins, aunts and uncles.
The Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8 in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a veteran’s group of your choice.
