Donald J. Violette

BARRE – Donald Joseph Violette, 66, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease, with his loving family at his bedside.

Born April 21, 1952 in Barre, he was the son of Joseph E. and Phyllis R. (Leavitt) Violette. Donald attended Holy Ghost Elementary School in Graniteville and graduated from Marian High School in Barre.

After graduation he made his home in Graniteville then moved to St. Johnsbury and Berlin before settling in Barre.

Don was first employed by Joe’s Texaco in Barre, the family business, before working at the Vermont Liquor Stores in Barre, Montpelier and St. Johnsbury. Once he settled in Barre, he was employed at the Arcade in the Berlin Mall and was a vending route salesman.

He was an avid Red Sox fan, an obsessive comic book collector, and a long-time bowler at Twin City Lanes in Barre and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his father Joseph Earl Violette and his step-mother Carmelita Violette of New Port Richey, FL; his brothers William Earl Violette of Rouses Point, NY; Randall Robert Violette of South Burlington; and Christopher Paul Violette of Barre Town; his nephew Isaac Goss; and his nieces Caitlin Goss, Shannon Violette, Emily Violette and Alicia Violette.

He was predeceased by his mother Phyllis Violette; and his sisters Jill Elizabeth Violette and Sandra Lynn Violette.

The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Family and friends may call prior to the service from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. Following the service, inurnment will take place in the St. Sylvester Cemetery in Lower Websterville.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at The Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care Don received there in his final years.
