MONTPELIER – Donald J. Touchette, 82, of Montpelier and formerly of Nebraska Valley in Moscow, VT and Barre, VT passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with his family at his side.
Born on November 1, 1941, he was the son of Joseph and Marion (Wiltshire) Touchette.
He attended grade school in Stowe. In June of 1958, he went into the U.S. Army for four years.
He was first married to Shirley Nolan, later they divorced. He then married Sandra L. Holt Sayers on November 2, 1996. They made their home in Montpelier.
In earlier years, he worked on various farms, and was a truck driver for Johnson Paving and Thygesen Construction.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Montpelier Post #3, Montpelier VFW Auxiliary, and the Mutuo Club of Barre.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching car racing.
Survivors include his wife Sandra of Montpelier, his son James Touchette of Barre, his three stepsons Leavitt, David and Paul Sayers, his three step-grandsons, his sisters Anne White and her husband, Richard of Waterbury, and JoAnne Carr and her husband, Erwin of Walden, his half-brother Perly Sparrow and his wife, Kathy of Vernon and his brother-in-law David Hawkins as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son and his brother Larry Touchette.
The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Family and friends may call one hour, starting at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
