BARRE TOWN – Donald Merle Rowell, 66, of Spring Hollow Lane, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 22, 1950 in Hardwick, he was the son of Merle and Lillie (Jacobs) Rowell. Donald attended East Calais schools.
On May 24, 1969, he married Cynthia Little in Woodbury. Following their marriage, they made their home in Barre Town.
Donald worked for the City of Barre as a truck driver, the Wells Lamson Quarry, and as a lumper for the Adams Granite Company retiring after 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Steel Workers Union and in his spare time enjoyed hunting, traveling in his motor home, riding his tractor, watching Boston Red Sox games, taking trips in his truck to Kittery and Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his wife, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Cynthia; his daughter Tammy Cota, and her life partner, Jeff Emmons of Northfield; his grandchildren Brooke and Laci Cota “the joy of his life”; Donna Roberts, loving family member for over 20 years; his sisters, Shirley Collier and her husband, Tom, of Greensboro, Milly Brumback and her husband, Terrell, of Calais and Betty Chase of Barre Town; his brothers Cecil Dailey and his wife, Martha, of Greensboro, Edward Rowell and his wife, Nancy, of North Calais, Douglas Rowell of Calais, Richard Rowell and his wife, Nancy, of East Montpelier.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son Kevin Rowell, and his sister, Liz Paton.
The graveside service to celebrate and honor his life will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Sunday, August 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
