BARRE - Donald Raymond Beaudin, 72, of Merchant Street, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington with his family at his bedside.
Born on January 12, 1943 in Barre, he was the son of Roma and Bertha (Dion) Beaudin. He attended the former Holy Ghost School in Graniteville and Spaulding High School in Barre. From 1962 to 1965, he served in the U. S. Army and had served in Germany.
Donald was first married to Louise Hayford. Following their marriage, they lived in Barre and were later divorced.
On October 25, 1997, he married Linda LaPine and they made their home in Barre.
Donald spent his working career in the Granite Industry. In earlier years, he worked for the former Jones Brothers Granite Company in Barre, the South Barre Granite Company, Granite Importers, and Granite Industries of Vermont, both in Barre. In 2005, he retired from the Adams Granite Company. He stayed active, working for Barre Town, maintaining and mowing the recreation fields.
A former member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Washington and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in East Barre, his other memberships included the Canadian Club and the American Legion Post 10, both of Barre.
He was an avid fan of Thunder Road and NASCAR Racing. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling.
Besides his wife, Linda Beaudin of Barre, he is survived by two sons, Michael Beaudin and his wife, Donna of Barre and Mark Beaudin and his wife, Teresa of Barre Town; three grandchildren, Matthew Portzer, Lucas Beaudin, and Zachary Portzer; a stepdaughter, Carrie Philburt and her husband, Bernie of Shrewsbury; a stepson, Russell Carrara and his wife, Karly of Shrewsbury; his brothers and sisters, Dennis Beaudin and his wife, Joyce, Laurette Allard and her husband, Mickey, all of Graniteville, Linda Sprague and her husband, John of East Brookfield, Jo-Ann Beaudin and her husband, Paschal Deblasio of Williston, Roma Beaudin, Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Florida, Rev. William Beaudin of Middlebury, and Ronald Beaudin and his wife, Valerie of East Brookfield; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His parents and brother, Gerard Beaudin, who died in infancy, predeceased him.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 9, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. His internment will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in East Randolph.
