BARRE – Derek G. Bartlett, 79, a longtime Barre resident, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at his home.
Born on July 13, 1946, in Barre, he was the son of George and Irene (McLeod) Bartlett. He attended schools locally.
Throughout his life, Derek had many hobbies and interests. Some of those included hunting, snowmobiling, boating, biking, waterskiing, going to Thunder Road, and later in life going golfing. He enjoyed meeting new people and was curious to hear about their life experiences. Family gatherings were also a favorite of his, especially at the family camp on Greenwood Lake where he was part of the third generation of Bartlett’s to share life and laughter at the camp.
He had many jobs throughout his life. He worked for Hutch Brothers Concrete, Kelco and was a custodian for the Barre Supervisory Union and U32 High School.
Derek is survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen Bartlett; his nephew Jay Bartlett and his wife, Julie and their daughter Tessa; his niece Mellisa Maffie and her husband, Paul and their daughter Anna.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Sharon and his brothers George and Norman.
A service to honor and celebrate Derek’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church on Seminary Street in Barre. Interment will take place in Hope Cemetery in Barre.
