BARRE - Delta Teresa Zorzi Dalton “Gim” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 after a short stay at Woodridge Nursing Home.
Born in Barre on May 23, 1921, she was the daughter of Gaetano Zorzi and Guiseppina Comolli Zorzi. Delta grew up in Barre on Circle Street with her sister Tisbe. Delta was a tom boy, she loved to play outside, and she loved school. She attended Lincoln School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1939. Delta started working at MH Fishman Co Inc. in Barre and remained there for 40 years, she made many dear friends while working and really enjoyed her time there.
Delta met her husband Theodore ‘Ted’ Dalton at a dance, they married on September 18, 1948. She and Ted built their house in 1955 and welcomed their son Daryl James Dalton into the world on September 28, 1955. Delta spent these years with Ted, caring for her mother, raising Daryl and working at Fishman’s. Ted predeceased her on January 30, 1982. She never drove a car and therefore would walk herself and Daryl to and from work and school every day. Delta loved to garden. She had a beautiful flower and vegetable garden that she managed for many years. Another favorite hobby of hers was hand coloring photographs, she did this beautifully in her spare time. Delta was a member of the St. Monica’s Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters and Scout Leader at St. Monica’s for many years.
In her later years she took care of her Granddaughter Katie during the day. They shared a very special bond. She loved all the neighborhood kids, she was an important and integral part of their childhood and always thought fondly of this time in her life. Delta loved music and the arts and always encouraged involvement throughout her life. Above everything, she loved people, an ‘adopted’ mother and grandmother to many, she had countless friends throughout her life and was always a kind soul.
She lived in her house independently for 96 years. Her strength, determination and love will be missed, but she will continue to be an inspiration for all that knew her.
Delta is survived by her son Daryl Dalton and his wife, Julie Town Dalton of Barre, her granddaughter Katie Dalton Lochhead and her husband, Joshua Lochhead, their two boys – her great grandchildren Ezra and Avery Lochhead all of Barre, her niece Beverlee Lawson of Websterville and her two great nephews Bradley Lawson of Websterville and Thomas Dean of Virginia.
A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
