Dehla B. Washburn

December 14, 1943 — June 16, 2017

Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN – Dehla Belle Washburn, 73, of Bailey Road, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away after a long and courageous battle surrounded by her family and friends on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.

Born December 14, 1943 in Middlebury, she was the daughter of Bernard E. and Pauline T. (Spaulding) Washburn.

Dehla worked most of her life taking care of the elderly in various nursing homes and then later in life private duty.

She enjoyed very much visiting with her long time and distant friend, Phyllis.

Dehla will truly be missed by so many but she can and will be remembered through the many things she enjoyed doing, like working in her garden growing flowers, playing with her dog, “little bear” and doing many arts and crafts. She also enjoyed baking and making the perfect home cooked meal for her two sons, Irving and Jake and also her brothers. Most of all, Dehla enjoyed spending time with her family and she gave the best hugs.

She was also well known for having an intense love affair with chocolate and proving it by making the best chocolate pies. Her sense of humor would make even the stiffest person giggle. Dehla’s bubbly personality overflowed with love and she always had more than enough to give.

We will all miss her so very much and in so many different things and ways, like her laugh, her warmth, her compassion and lightheartedness. Dehla’s ability and willingness to always listen will also be on that very long list of misses.

Survivors include her sons Irving MacAulay of Williamstown and Jake MacAulay and his wife, Andrea of Williamstown; her grandson Josh MacAulay and his wife, Karissa; 2 great-grandsons Trey and Lincoln MacAulay; her siblings Chan Washburn of Bristol, Donna Day of Williamstown, Vaughn Roberts of Williamstown, Robin Washburn of Barre, Randy Washburn of Williamstown, and T.J. Washburn of East Montpelier; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Zackry and her sister Susan Thompson.

In keeping with Dehla’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral, instead she would ask that you celebrate her life by doing the things she loved while spending time with family and friends.

The family would wishes to extend a special thank you to Carol Washburn for taking such good care of Dehla.
