BARRE – David P. Widmer, 78, a loving father, grandfather and retired granite industry salesman, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 18, 2024, with his daughters by his side.
Born on July 24, 1945, in Woodstock, he was the son of Paul and Grace Widmer. During his childhood, David’s family moved from Woodstock to Washington. He attended school in Washington. Following his schooling, He enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1966. He then moved back to Vermont with Sandy Pecor and made their home in Washington. The two eventually married and David built the home that they would raise their family in.
During this time, he went to work for Cook, Watkins and Patch Granite Manufacturers where he became a traveling salesman for over a decade. He eventually went on to work for Buttura and Gherardi Granite Artisans before his retirement.
David and Sandy eventually divorced, and he went on to meet his long-time partner Dianna Wilde. The two settled in Calais. They took great pride in their home and finished many renovation projects. They moved back to Barre in 2002 where they purchased a home where they resided for over 25 years.
Throughout his life, David had many hobbies and interests. The most important of those were hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, watching Red Sox games and most importantly riding his motorcycle on day trips with a great group of family and friends. Especially riding over the Kancamagus Highway on the way to Maine. He also enjoyed woodworking, making things and keeping his home in perfect order.
Survivors include his son Randy Widmer; his daughters Denise Fuller and Nancy Smith; his brother Thomas Widmer; his sister Judith Harper as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Paul, Robert, Freddy and Jimmy; his sisters Carol and Patricia; as well as his long-time partner Diana Wilde.
A service to honor and celebrate David’s life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Inurnment will take place in the spring. There are no calling hours.
