David Callahan

WELLS RIVER – David “Bear” Callahan, 72, of Main Street North, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Born on February 3, 1944 in Springfield, MA he was the son of Thomas and Dorothy (Lindsley) Callahan.
David married Elizabeth Walker on June 14, 1969 in Huntington, MA (The best thing he ever did!)
David had several occupations; He worked as a rodeo cowboy, in the copper mines, as the owner and operator of Callahan Cleaners, and was a community activist for Native American rites and Antipsychiatry.
He loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others, including incarcerated individuals.
He attended several churches including the 7th Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his son, David Callahan; daughters, Laura Callahan and Jen Hoffert; and others he thought of as sons, Jeff Hoffert, Matthew Hemphill, Running Bear, Malcolm Sawyer, and Torey Meister; his grandchildren, Faith Hemphill, Jenn Caldwell, Grace and Julia Hoffert; his five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas Jr. and Paul and three sisters, Patricia, Mary, and Susie.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, and sister Cathy.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate David’s life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the 7th Day Adventist Church on 297 Vine Street in Berlin.
