WALDEN – David Paul Berte, 90, of Stone Lane passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at his home.
Born July 13, 1929 in Barre, he was the son of Dino and Elvina (DeVecchi) Berte. He attended local elementary schools and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Army until he was honorably discharged in 1953.
He married Beverley Ardelle Downing and they later divorced.
David lived in Plainfield for thirty years before moving to his current residence in Walden about twenty years ago. He owned and operated the Luckyday Poultry Farm, the B & B Service Station and Green Valley Produce at the same time. He retired from the Luckyday Poultry Farm in 2008 when he sold the business to his son.
He was a member of the North American Martyrs Catholic Church in Marshfield, the Mutuo, Inc., and the Barre Lodge of Elks BPOE # 1535. In his spare time, David enjoyed hunting and boating. In his earlier years, he liked to go fishing and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his son Todd Berte and his partner, Debbie Hill of Barre; his daughter Kimberly Kuncz of Montpelier; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; his sister Vivian Wartti of New York; one niece and one nephew as well as his companion Ruth Fowler.
The Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. Following the service inurnment will take place in Hope Cemetery in Barre. Family and friends may call on Monday, September 9, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
