ESSEX JUNCTION - Cynthia J. Rubalcaba, 74, a long-time resident of Essex Junction passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, following a lengthy illness.

She was the daughter of Michael G. and Patricia B. Rubalcaba. Cindy attended schools in Websterville, VT and Spaulding High School, graduating SHS in 1969. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in 1973. Cindy worked in the UVM Office of Residential Life her entire career, both on the main campus and at Ft Ethan Allen. She proudly supported the UVM community overall, as a long-time season ticket holder of UVM hockey, and by mentoring the women at her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. She enjoyed working with her many colleagues, who remain friends to this day, as well as interactions with the students who changed from year to year.

Cindy was a fan of stock car racing, locally and nationally. You could often see her in the stands with her faithful clipboard, keeping score. Cindy also loved to garden, and she was especially proud to share with family and friends what she grew in the community garden plot she maintained behind her home. Tomatoes were her specialty and were grown in abundance. Cindy spent lots of time at the family’s camp on Joe’s Pond. She was a favorite as a partner for card games (especially pitch), or board games, and was often chosen as the score keeper because she was the most trustworthy among the players.

Survivors include her sister Patricia Rubalcaba of Reading, MA; brother Michael Rubalcaba of Tewksbury, MA; and brother Steven Rubalcaba and partner Karen Gadapee of Websterville, VT. Other close family members include cousins Tim Grenon, Jim Grenon, and Debbie Rubalcaba Plant (also SHS ’69).

Cindy was predeceased by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. There are no calling hours. Burial will occur at St. Sylvesters Cemetery at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Cindy’s memory may be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641, www.cvhhh.org      or your local home health/hospice agency.
