BARRE - Constance E. “Connie” Fondry, 95, a lifelong resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at her home.
Born on March 25, 1928, in Barre, she was the daughter of Russel and Elsie (Bryant) Eastman. She attended Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1946.
In 1947 she married John Clifford Fondry. Together they raised three children on College Street (formerly Richardson Street) in Barre. John passed away on September 13, 1995.
Connie worked at New England Telephone and Telegraph in Barre, and after her children were grown, she worked at the Homer Fitts Company in the downstairs department. She later worked part-time at the East Barre Antique Mall.
She was a member of the Barre Universalist Church and church choir, and the Association of Universalist Women, where she served as president for three years. She was also a member of the Barre Women’s Club.
Connie was very artistic and enjoyed early American painting and decorating, needlework, knitting, and playing bridge with her friends. She loved antiquing and going to yard sales to hunt for treasures.
Survivors include her two daughters Susan LaMott and her husband, Nelson and Gail Fondry; her son John G. Fondry and his wife, Karen; seven grandchildren Sara Fantoni, Joshua Foster, Jennifer LaMott, Matthew LaMott, Eric LaMott, Aaron Fondry and Jessica Fondry; six great-grandchildren Elisa Fantoni, Abby Fantoni, Dylan LaMott, Mason LaMott, Dante LaMott and Asher LaMott and two great-great-grandchildren Elijah LaMott and Haven Qua as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Russel Eastman, Jr., her sisters Arline McCondach and Beatrice Peterson and a great-grandson Julian LaMott.
The graveside service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) in Hope Cemetery in Barre. There are no calling hours.
