Clifton J. Burroughs

MARSHFIELD – Clifton J. “Clif” Burroughs, 81, of U.S. Route 2 passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017, at Florida Hospital in Deland.

Born November 8, 1935, in Walden, he was the son of Howard and Ella (Stearns) Burroughs. Clif attended King Elementary School and Marshfield Elementary School. Later he served in the Vermont Army National Guard.

On July 29, 1959, Clif married Audra L. Thomas in Cabot.   After their marriage, they made their home in Marshfield.

Clif was employed at Goddard College in maintenance and as a painter for 25 years after which he worked for himself for 16 years, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed classic cars, traveling, and spending the winter months in Astor, Florida.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Audra of Marshfield; his daughter Cathy Burroughs Gosselin of Woodbury and his son Neal H. Burroughs of Hertford, NC; ten grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Cindy L. Townsend and his son-in-law Dale A. Townsend.

Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Church of God of Prophecy in Marshfield. A time of fellowship will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Plain-Mont Cemetery in East Montpelier.
