Obituary

BARRE – Clement M. Perreault, 93, a longtime resident of Beckley Hill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born on March 13, 1933, in Lambton, Quebec, he was the son of Elzear and Rose (Picard) Perreault. He attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Lambton.

On October 1, 1960, Clement married his wife of 65 years, Diane Fortin in a ceremony held in Lambton. The two then moved to Barre where they made their home and spent the rest of their lives there.

Growing up on a farm, Clement appreciated hard work. He was employed by the Brown Company as a logger in Maine and New Hampshire as well as logged in the forests of Ontario. He also worked in construction in Montreal during the 1950s. Arriving in Barre, he worked as a polisher in the granite industry for 11 years. Eventually he started his own handy man business, with a specialty in tree service. Clement could be seen almost daily with a smile on his face driving his dump truck through the streets of Barre as he faithfully served his customers, many of whom developed lasting friendships with him. He was well known for taking a break from work for a cup of coffee at Soups N’ Greens and for socializing with the staff and many friends.

He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Mutuo Social Club and the Canadian Club.

Some of his favorite hobbies and interests included telling stories and jokes, hunting, maple sugaring, mowing his lawn, and playing guitar in the family band. Clement’s family band was well known in the Lambton community and played French-Canadian music at weddings and other social gatherings. In Barre, Clement continued to play alongside his brother Gerard and other local musicians, including at the Barre Heritage Festival.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; his son John and his wife, Diane (Gosselin); his grandson Patrick and his wife, Sacha (Thompson); His siblings Helene and her husband Richard Couture, Jacques and his wife Gaetane, Francoise and her husband Jean-Eudes Dugay, his sister-in-law Carmelle, and Father Luc, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Chris Perreault and four siblings (Rita, Jean-Marc, Gerard, Andre) and four stepsiblings (Doris, Therese, Claire and Gerald).

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate Clement’s life will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. Reception to follow at the Mutuo Social Club in Barre. Burial will take place in the Hope Cemetery in Barre at a later date. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the St. Monica-St. Michael School, 79 Summer Street #2, Barre, VT 05641.
