Catherine M. Pelkey

BARRE TOWN — Catherine M. Pelkey, 96, a longtime Websterville resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, in the presence of her loving family in Graniteville. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a special aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Born on March 1, 1928, in Orange, Vermont, she was the daughter of Carlo and Marguerite (Rocchio) Lorenzini. She treasured growing up in Orange with her four sisters and one brother, and she shared these precious memories with her family.

She attended elementary school in Orange and Websterville, graduating in 1947 from Spaulding High School.

On August 25, 1948, she married Wendell F. Pelkey, in Saint Sylvester Church in Graniteville. They made their home in Websterville, raising their six children. She was an industrious woman much devoted to the welfare of her family and home. Later she worked for many years with the Conti family at the Hilltop Restaurant and then for her brother Mario Lorenzini at the Country House Restaurant.

Survivors include her son Stephen Pelkey of Jeffersonville, her daughters Kathleen (Perry) Grange of Graniteville, Susan (Dwaine) Smith of Groton, Wendy Guay of Underhill, Peggy (Donald) Lajeunesse of Websterville, and Carolyn (David) Kittredge of Barre Town; her 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as her brother-in-law Wayne Pelkey and sister-in-law Nancy Taplin, both of Barre, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Wendell in 1990, son-in-law Steven Guay, and grandson Darren Smith; in addition to her parents and six siblings Olga (James) Garcia, Josephine (Lawrence) O’Connor, Alvira (Raymond) Murphy, Mary (Harry) Rivers, Mario (Rose) Lorenzini, and Carlo, Jr. (died at birth).

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. There are no calling hours. A spring committal will take place at St. Sylvester Cemetery.
