BARRE TOWN – Carolyn Ann Gagne, 73, of Crescent Lane, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 12, 1942, in Plainfield, she was the daughter of Leo and Emma (Baldwin) Nichols. She attended St. Monica Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre City in 1961.
On May 11, 1963, she married her high school sweetheart, since age 16, Paul Gagne, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Following their marriage they lived in Barre City and since 1968 at their present home on Crescent Lane.
Carolyn had worked for many years as a secretary and receptionist first at the Granite Mutual Insurance Company in Barre, later the Vermont Division of the American Cancer Society office in Montpelier where she received many accolades for her work as an event coordinator, and retired from the Cabot Cheese Annex Store in Waterbury Center.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, casino gambling, camping and attending her son and grandsons’ hockey games and her granddaughter’s dance recitals and especially loved her dog, “Buffy”.
Her memberships included St. Monica Catholic Church and Court St. Monica’s, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Besides her husband, Paul, she leaves her daughter Deborah Gagne-Barney and her husband, Chuck of Barre Town and her son Brent Gagne and his wife, Susan, of Barre City and 3 grandchildren Cole and Rachel Barney and Christian Gagne, and she will be remembered for the love for her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sisters Shirley Granger and Lorraine Hebert and her brother George Nichols.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Leo Nichols, Jr.
Carolyn’s life will be honored and celebrated with a service to be held at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel followed by inurnment in the family memorial section at a time to be announced in the Spring of 2016.
