BARRE – Caroline B. Scott, 88, of Maple Avenue, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 29, 2016, with her son Richard at her bedside.
Born in Barre on February 14, 1928, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Freda (Aylwin) Belville. She attended elementary schools in Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1948.
On September 25, 1948, she married Frank L. Scott in the First Presbyterian Church of Barre. They spent all their married life in Barre City. He died December 11, 2013.
In her early years, she worked at the Granite City Creamery and after she got married she was a homemaker. Caroline volunteered for the food program at Central Vermont Community Action Council and for several years at the former McFarland House.
She enjoyed word games, playing cards, reading and traveling and visiting museums. Caroline was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Barre.
Survivors include her two sons, George Scott and his wife, Claudia of East Lansing, MI, and Richard Scott of Barre; her grandson Steven Scott and his wife Nena of Clayton, NY; two great-grandsons Steven Scott, II and Jeron Scott; one great-granddaughter Cierra Scott of Clayton, NY; one sister Marion Hazelton of Cedar Rapids, IA; four other grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Frank L. Scott; her brothers Robert (Bummy) Belville and Walter Belville; her sisters Mildred Scrizzi and her husband, Bruno, and Dorothy Lavin and her husband, Serafin.
Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Monday, October 3, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The service to celebrate and honor her life will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Barre. Interment will take place in the family lot in Hope Cemetery prior to the service.
