Carol P. Jewett
BARRE - Carol Pryor Jewett, 79, of Barre, VT, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Born on August 2, 1946, Carol was the daughter of John Raymond “Jock” and Leona Mae (Murphy) Pryor. Carol grew up in Barre, attending Trow Hill Elementary School and graduating from Spaulding High School in 1964. On November 10, 1967 she married the love of her life, Dennie Jewett. Together they made their first home in Montpelier, then in Barre Town at the Murphy/Pryor family house, and later in the home they joyfully built together in Barre Town in 1988.
Carol spent most of her career at the Vermont State Employees Credit Union working with mortgages, where she not only worked but built lifelong friendships. Before VSECU, she worked for several years at Northfield Savings Bank in Barre and for the State of Vermont.
A woman of strong faith, she attended the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Barre. Carol lived fully and simply, despite her health diagnosis over 20 years ago, treasuring the time she shared with her family and friends. She loved reading, playing solitaire, listening to music and luncheons with the ladies.
Some of her happiest days were trips spent at the ocean—surrounded by those she loved most and family trips to New York.
Carol leaves behind her devoted husband, Dennie, her daughter, Jody (Jewett) Tarleton, and her husband, Jason, of Woodstock, VT; her son, Duncan Jewett, of Boston, MA, and his partner, Keleigh; and her beloved grandchildren, Owen Tarleton and Emma Tarleton. She also leaves her treasured nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Leona, and her three sisters—Barbara Pryor Smith, Rosemary Pryor Kilian, and Sharon Pryor Smith—whom she missed deeply.
Carol was a courageous, strong, honest, giving, and an endlessly caring woman. She had a gift for lighting up a room with her laughter and for bringing comfort, joy, and warmth to those around her. Her presence lifted others. She will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
May she rest in peace, reunited in joy with her parents, three sisters and friends—dancing together once again to “Spirit in the Sky.”
There will be no calling hours. Church services will be announced, and family and friends will gather for a celebration of life in the spring of 2026 in Barre.
Carol's family would like to thank CVMC/ICU and CVHHH team.
