Carol P. Day

BARRE - Carol P. Day passed away surrounded by family after a brief illness on Thursday, June 11, 2026, just before her 90th birthday.

Carol Ann Parker was born on June 22, 1936, in Melrose, MA, the firstborn daughter of Carl M. Parker and Ethel Margeson Parker. Carl owned a Boston wholesale butter, egg and poultry business in Faneuil Hall, where he met Ethel. Their firstborn daughter Carol treasured her childhood memories of swimming at Revere Beach and riding the elevated train into Boston for shopping excursions with her mother and sister Beverly.

The Parker family eventually moved to Bellows Falls, VT, where Carol attended grade school and was a proud member of the Bellows Falls High School class of 1954. She was a dancer and a majorette, and it was in the halls at BFHS that she met Basil Day, her handsome—and very tall—future husband and devoted partner of over 60 years.

Carol graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in dental hygiene. After graduation she moved to Greenfield, MA to work in a dental practice. After Basil completed his military service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the couple were married on December 29, 1957, in Bellows Falls. They made their home in Greenfield, before eventually settling on Sterling Hill in Barre, VT to raise their daughters Melissa and Leslie.

For many years Carol worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Donald Sherman. In 1979, Carol and Basil opened Day’s Shoe Tree, a family shoe store in downtown Barre they operated together for 20 years. Carol was active in several community organizations, including the Barre Partnership, Altrusa, and the Central Vermont Hospital Auxiliary. She and Basil had many fond memories of participating in the Auxiliary’s annual “Follies” fundraiser.

Later in life, Carol became a familiar presence on local cable television, co-hosting “The Carol & Tony Show” and “New England Cooks” with her dear friend Tony Campos. The two also emceed the live broadcast of the annual Barre Homecoming parade for many years.

Carol’s greatest source of pride and joy was the family she created with Basil. She leaves behind her daughters Melissa Perley and Leslie Craige; grandchildren Michael, Jesse, Ethan and Joshua Blouin, Angus, Ellis and Parker Craige; and great-grandchildren Emerson and Willow Blouin, Porter and Wells Blouin, and Charlie Basil Blouin.

Carol will be remembered by her family and friends for the warmth, laughter and spirit with which she lived her long and joyful life. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined. Contributions may be made in her honor to: Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vermont 05641.
